Winter’s Here a Little Early!

Winter is here a little earlier this year! Don’t let the cold weather catch you off guard. Remove your hoses from your hose bibs, close your foundation vents or install vent covers, and schedule your sprinklers to be blown out. In addition, find out where the water shut-off to your house is located in case of an emergency. You know the saying about an ounce of prevention!

A Plumber or a Landscaper?

Who to call? A plumber or a landscaper? A landscaper is going to be able to help you with anything related to your sprinkler system excluding your hose bibs and yard hydrants. You want to call a landscaper for a zone that doesn’t open or a broken sprinkler head. If you have a problem with your hose bib or any of the other plumbing unrelated to your landscape, call a plumber. A landscaper is not licensed to work on your home’s plumbing. Both work with pipes and water, but they each have their own area of expertise.

Don’t Leave For the Holidays Until You Do This!

If you plan on going out of town for the holidays, remember to make sure you don’t turn off your heat before you go! Often people try to save a little money by turning off their heat when they leave, but this can cost you big bucks when your pipes freeze. Make sure your foundation vents are closed and your home is warm enough to keep your pipes from freezing, so water damage repair isn’t the first item on your to do list for the new year!

An Ounce of Prevention….

Winter is in full force here in Central Oregon, and your plumbing is at risk. If your pipes freeze and break, the repairs can be very costly. There are some things that you can do, though, to help protect your home before any damage happens. First, make sure that your home’s exterior foundation vent covers are on. This will hold in the heat and help protect the pipes under your home. Second, remove all hoses from your hose bibs. This will help keep your hose bibs from freezing and breaking. Finally, and most importantly, never turn the heat off to your home. If the pipes in your walls freeze in addition to the pipes under your home, your home could flood when the pipes thaw out which will be expensive and messy. Take some precautions this winter. You know what they say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”!

Is Your Water Bill Too High?

Between filling the kid’s pool and watering the lawn, your water bill is going to be higher through the summer months. Does it still seem a little too high?
